"Food For Good" is keen to promote the reduction of waste at source to the industrial and commercial sectors. Food For Good attended a talk organized by "the Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong" on 28 June, 2013. The talk was about waste reduction and the handling of commercial food waste.
Prof. Lam Kin-che, SBS, JP, Adviser of Food For Good stressed that the world was facing the challenge of climate change. He stated that only 60% of the agricultural products were for dining, the other 40% were wasted. He said that the public had to change the dining habits and had to build a food cherishing culture in order to maintain a stable supply of food.
Prof. Jonathan Wong Woon-chung, MH, Vice-chairman of Food For Good, talked about the waste problem in Hong Kong and the methods of management. He also quoted Naples' and Tai Pei’s experience in handling waste as examples when giving explanations. Professor Wong talked about the problem of food waste in Hong Kong. He said that the ways of handling food waste included converting food waste to compost, biofuels and feed. He said that by applying these methods, food waste can be turned into assets. Professor Wong concluded the talk with the vision of Food For Good: cherish food, do not waste resources and work towards "zero food waste".
